Making and Canning Homemade Barbecue Sauce
This barbecue sauce recipe is very easy
to make and can at home.
Ingredients:

  2 cups
12 pints
 
Toasted Sesame Seed Oil
1 tablespoon
3/4 cup
 
Onions, finely chopped
1/2 onion
6 onions
 
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
1 tablespoon
 
Pepper
1/4 teaspoon
1 tablespoon
 
Chili Powder
3/8 teaspoon
1-1/2 tablespoons
 
Ketchup
1 cup
12 cups (96 oz)
 
Brown Sugar
3/4 cup
9 cups
 
Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon
3/4 cup
 
Cider Vinegar
1/4 cup
3 cups
 
Water
1/4 cup
3 cups
 
1. To save time, organize all ingredients before
beginning.
2. Coarsely chop the onions. At the same time,
heat the oil on a medium-low heat.
3. Saute onions until translucent or for about 5
minutes.  Add salt, pepper and chili powder.
4. Turn heat up to medium. Add the rest of the
ingredients beginning with the ketchup.

Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce the heat and
simmer for 10 minutes.
For canning use the following techniques:
Canning using hot pack method with 1/2” of headspace.  
Processing with a Water Bath for 30 minutes at 212 degrees as done in Video 3.  
For elevations above 1,000 foot level see
Altitude Time Adjustments.  
After processing, remove from boiling water and place the jars on a towel, separated by 1” to cool
naturally as quickly as possible.
